What a pleasure it is to bring together poet Mary Wehner and artist Jane Marshall for this project. They know each other and have walked many of the same paths in life. Mary lives at the edge of a lake, steeped in the natural world, and much of Jane’s work comes from her unique observations of the flora and fauna she studies in her walkabouts.

Mary Wehner is a poet and a painter. Based on the shores of Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin, she has exhibited her paintings regionally and has collaborated with artists, poets and writers in the United States and Cuba. She has authored three letterpress poetry chapbooks and four broadsides published by Red Hydra Press. Her work has appeared in various literary magazines and anthologies, and was nominated for a Pushcart in poetry. She was Poet-in-Residence for two sessions at the Penland School of the Craft in North Carolina. She considers both poetry and painting as a way to attend to the world around her.

Jane Marshall’s art career spans many year, numerous geographic locations, and diverse media investigations including printmaking, painting, sculpture and ceramics. She has been actively engaged with her immediate surroundings and on-going environmental issues that serve as inspiration and the subjects for her work. She has taught at several universities and colleges and remains productive in her home studio, clay studio, and at her printing press.
